Mike Irwin

Mike teaches 1st year plumbing at Granite State Trade School. As an instructor, Mike believes experience is a critical element of learning and that failure is an important teacher.

Mike is a second-generation Master Plumber/Pipefitter with more than 15 years of experience in the trade.. Currently a construction foreman for Al Terry Plumbing and Heating, he takes great pride in maintaining quality and a vision of the “bigger picture” when executing projects. Mike, who is currently working toward his NH Gasfitters license, currently holds the following licenses and certifications: State of NH Master Plumber, State of Florida Journeyman Plumber, NH Gas Trainee (completion in 2019) and Medical Equipment.

Jennifer Mugford


Jennifer Mugford specializes in HVAC instruction for the two year certificate program offered here at Granite State Trade School.  Jen has attended the National HVAC Educators and Trainers Workshops for professional development.

Jennifer graduated from Dover High School in Dover, NH.  Having been exposed to four years of trades training in high school,  Jen went on to earn a scholarship to Universal Technical Institute in Chicago.

Jennifer has spent over 20 years in the HVAC industry working in Residential and Light Commercial settings.  She currently oversees many HVAC and system automation controls for HVAC systems on the campus of UNH Durham.

Joe Steinmetz

Gas Service Training

Joe brings nearly 50 years of industry and education experience to Granite State Trade School. Prior to becoming an educator, he spent 15 years working in the plumbing, heating, HVAC and electrical trades.

Joe has served as Adjunct Faculty at Manchester Community College where he taught Refrigeration Load Estimating, Air Conditioning Circuits and Controls (Heat Pumps) from 1980 to 1983. He continued as Adjunct Faculty member at Manchester Community College from 2011 to 2013, teaching Heating and NORA Oil Heat. His stellar career in education was highlighted by 31 years as the HVAC and Electricity Instructor at prestigious Pinkerton Academy from 1981 to 2012.

Joe received an Associate Degree in Applied Science, HVACR at Manchester Community College in 1977. He completed DCNE Carrier Training for Gas and Oil Heat, Heat Pumps, Air Conditioning, Electricity and Controls, Air Handling and Properties of Air in 1980.

Joe currently holds a number of licenses and certifications, including State of NH Master Electrician 3413M, State of NH Gas Fitter GFE0801636, Endorsements: STN/STP, State of NH Experienced Educator, Heating and Air Conditioning, Teacher Certification, 1981 to 2012.
