Performs safe and efficient planning and execution of plumbing work, projects, and general maintenance assignments throughout the County Complex and properties.

Example of duties:

  • Maintains and troubleshoots all potable hot and cold water systems inside the buildings after the service entrance.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots the circulating hot water heating systems in the Complex.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots the steam heating systems in the Complex.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots the steam fed equipment in the Complex; a basic understanding of the functions and operation of the equipment under contract is necessary, including portions of the Rockingham County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center kitchen and laundry.
  • Maintains and keeps clear all sanitary drains, vents, roof vents, sinks, tubs, floor, and equipment drains inside the buildings of the Complex.
  • Cleans, maintains, sets up and troubleshoots the oil-fired boilers, furnaces, and hot water heaters serving the outbuildings in the Complex.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting of electrical, HVAC, etc. systems and equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance of equipment and systems as required and assigned.
  • Maintains, troubleshoots and services equipment associated with or used in the accomplishment of assigned duties.
  • Provides support to outside contractors as may be requested.
  • Participates in cross training with all other divisions within the Engineering & Maintenance Services department.
  • Prepares and submits accurate daily work orders recording duties performed and materials used, and other reporting duties as may be required or requested.
  • Provides snow removal services for the entire complex.
  • Participates in the rotating on-call general maintenance process to provide coverage to other areas of the county complex.
  • Requires ability to stay past normal shift time to provide coverage, during emergency situations or as the need demands up to 16 hours.

Typical qualifications:

  • High school education and/or the equivalent;
  • Knowledge of plumbing equivalent to completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent from a vocational or technical school.
  • Master Plumber’s license required. Valid driver’s license required; heavy commercial license preferred.
  • Five (5) years of related experience and/or training,
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
