Water Treatment System Operator

The purpose of this position is to assist, individually and with others, in the operation and maintenance of the City of Portsmouth’s water treatment facilities. This includes functions such as treating and analyzing water, cleaning and maintaining treatment facilities, wells, pumping stations and equipment, tanks, performing preventative maintenance and repair work, and otherwise completing assigned work.   Performance is subject to review according to the City’s personnel plan through observation, reports and the results achieved. Position reports to the Chief Plant Operator.

The primary location of work duties is the Water Treatment Facility in Madbury NH; however, daily activities typically involve multiple facilities throughout the water system distribution area in Portsmouth and surrounding communities.

Starting pay is $22.23 an hour without certification
$23.33 an hour with a New Hampshire Grade 1 Water Treatment Operator Licensee
$25.82 an hour with a New Hampshire Grade 2 Water Treatment Operator License
Additional pay for on-call and overtime per the AFSCME 1386A Working Agreement
