Pay rate is $24.31 – $27.80 per the AFSCME 1386A Working Agreement.

Starting pay is $24.31-$26.80 an hour without certification.
$24.81-$27.30 an hour with Water/Sewer Grade 1 License.
$25.31-$27.80 an hour with a Water/Sewer Grade 2 License.
Additional pay for on-call and overtime per the AFSCME 1386A Working Agreement.

The purposes of this position are to perform skilled municipal maintenance and construction work and operate heavy equipment as required to complete work assignments.  Included are assignments such as crew leader, snow and ice control operations, street cleaning, other seasonal clearing and cleaning operations, drainage systems construction and maintenance, trench preparation and pipe laying, street repairs and paving, improving traffic and pedestrian access and sight distances, grounds maintenance, vegetation trimming, cutting and removal, excavating, back filling, loading, transporting and implementing job site and work safety procedures. Performance is subject to review according to the City’s personnel plan through observation, reports and the results achieved.

The purpose of this position is to perform tasks related to the maintenance of the City’s urban tree canopy.  Duties include planting, pruning, and removing trees and branches using industry standard practices and equipment with an emphasis on ground-based tasks.  This is labor-intensive work and requires strong communication skills to safely work with all crew members at the various job sites through the City of Portsmouth.

The purposes of this position are to assist in providing for the proper use and maintenance of the City’s parking facilities and to collect parking fees.  Facility supervision work includes taking a periodic inventory of available parking spaces, placing temporary direction signs to available parking, reminding motorists of proper parking requirements, providing visual facility security services, notifying the police of the need for their services, and posting the facility  “full” as appropriate.  The position performs light maintenance services when not required to be at an attendant’s booth or other assigned facility supervisory location.  Parking fees are collected from customers according to the City’s fee schedule and identified procedures.
